REC/MU Exam Room Hours are 07:30 to 11:00 and 11:30 to 3:00. Monday through Friday (Excluding all Federal Holidays).
REC Counter Service Hours are 7:30 to 11:00 and 11:30 to 3:00. Monday through Friday (Excluding all Federal Holidays).
Exam services are by appointment only. Counter services cannot be guaranteed without an appointment. Appointments may be canceled for late arrivals; however, if allowed to test after arriving late, an applicant will only receive the amount of time remaining for that exam session.
To schedule an appointment:
Call the NMC contact center at 1-888-IASKNMC (427-5662); or
Email REC at the email listed above.
Applicants MUST include the following information:
Full name;
Mariner Reference Number (MRN);
Date(s) requesting exam or in person counter service;
Cell phone number (For confirmation purposes).
Applicants shall bring a photo ID. Applicants are encouraged to bring their own #2 pencils, a non-programmable calculator and plotting equipment, if needed for the exam. We cannot guarantee that these items will be available at the REC/MU. No other personal belongings are allowed in the examination room; personal items may be stored in lockers provided within the REC during the exam. Exams will not be administered unless an applicant has paid all applicable user fees and has an approved-to-test (ATT) letter.
Applicants are required to pay all fees using: pay.gov
Applicants are encouraged to pay their user fees prior to arrival at the REC/MU.
Submit MMC applications and supporting documentation to: MMCApplications@uscg.mil.
Only First Class Pilot applications should be emailed directly to the REC.
Submit Awaiting Information (AI) Documentation to: MMC-Awaiting-Info@uscg.mil.
Submit Medical Certificate applications and supporting documentation to: MEDAIP@uscg.mil.
Applicants are discouraged from submitting Medical Certificate applications as part of a MMC application submissions as it may delay the receipt and processing of the Medical Certificate.
When submitting applications or documentation via e-mail, please ensure all attachments are in Adobe PDF format.
Submitting documentation in formats other than Adobe PDF will cause processing delays.
Mariners may continue to submit in-person at the REC/MU.
To access the REC, you must present a REAL ID compliant state driver’s license or identification card or a Federal issued identification document (e.g. passport, TWIC, MMC, military ID, etc.) Further information may be found with TSA: REAL ID | Transportation Security Administration
Visitors who are ill or demonstrate signs of a communicable disease will not be permitted to remain in the REC/MU and will need to reschedule their appointment.
REC Juneau Building Access Requirements: Through the front door of the Juneau Federal Building, through the security checkpoint. Proceed to the elevators up to the third floor, the office will be around the corner to the left, room 322.
Parking: Parking around the Juneau Federal Building is a 20-minute time limit in front, there is no designated parking, applicants are encouraged to give themselves enough time to locate a spot as not to cut into your appointment time.
Regional Exam Centers (REC) pre-screen applications, administer examinations, conduct oversight of Coast Guard approved courses, and support community outreach programs. It is important that you provide the Regional Exam Center with a complete application package to avoid delay.
You MUST have a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) before applying for a credential.
